These Indonesia articles take more time to prepare than I thought. I want to give you the full experience of how I have witnessed this trip via these photos and videos. Part 2 will be focussing on the magnificent Borobudur temple. Of course, there is a whole lot of food involved in these diaries, because they overfed us with so much deliciousness. I am surprised I didn’t gain weight in the 2 weeks I was there ghehe. Anyhow, enjoy Borobudur through our lenses!!
Day 3
Itinerary
• Flying to Semerang
• Lunch at Amanjiwo
• Hotel
• Dinner at Plataran Borobudur
Travels
Our first domestic flight was to Semarang (1 hour). We had some delays here, which got us a bit off schedule this day. After departure we went straight to Amanjiwo restaurant, which was still another 3 hours on the road to get there.

Amanjiwo
Amanjiwo is a luxurious resort in Magelang, Central Java. Next to the exquisite food here, you visit this place because of beautiful architecture of the buildings and the insanely beautiful view over the rainforest to the almighty Borobudur temple in the centre of the horizon. I wish we could have stayed here for a night 🙂

Hotel Atria
After lunch/dinner we went to hotel Atria for 1 (short) night. We were received with the warmest hotel welcome of this trip, with some local snacks and a traditional dance by these kids.

Restaurant Plataran Borobudur
Due to the delays, we had the choice to go dinner at Plataran restaurant immediately after the hotel check-in or take some rest. I was pretty exhausted at this point with the jetlag and travelling, so I stayed in with the 3am wake up call in my mind. Afterwards I was bummed that I have missing out big time. They said that this restaurant was one of the best of this trip. Nigel (le boyfriend) went to this dinner and captured the photos below to make me jealous 😉

Day 4
Itinerary
• Sunrise at Borobudur
• Museum Ulen Sentalu
• Lunch at Beukenhof Restaurant
• Phoenix hotel
• Dinner at Gadjah Wong Restaurant
Borobudur
Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist temple, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I got up at 3 am to get ready for a spectacular sunrise at this site. It was super special to witness something like this. We were climbing the stairs in the dark with our flashlights on. On top the temple we tried to figure out where the east side was to find the best spot to watch the sun come up. And when that time comes, you will be well rewarded with a sight you will never forget.
This is one of my favorite places of this trip. If you haven’t put Borobudur on your bucket list yet, I highly recommend you to do so. Preferably during sunrise as well! Check out my outfit shoot at this location, here.
Tip: have a compass or app prepared to determine which side of the temple is facing the East. Or wait and watch where other people are sitting 😉

Museum Ulen Sentalu & lunch at Beukenhof Restaurant
After breakfast we took the bus again for 2,5 hour to Kaliurang to visit the Ulen Sentalu museum. Ulen Sentalu is a Javanese culture and art museum with relics and artifact from royal houses. Here you will see clearly the history with The Netherlands, which was funny to read dutch poems so far from home. Taking photographs in the museum is unfortunately prohibited.
After admiring the museum collection we had our lunch at restaurant Beukenhof, attached to this museum. They serve great western food, which was nice for a change. Surprisingly, I ate the most delicious cheesecake ever here!
Tip: order the cheesecake!!

Phoenix hotel
After our lunch we traveled 1,5 hours to check-in at our next hotel, hotel Phoenix, in Yogyakarta. My absolute favorite hotel of this trip. I adore the colonial design of the hotel into the details, it shows so much character.
We finally got some free time to spend before dinner. However, the minute I stepped foot in our cute hotel room and saw the bed, I was knock out for the next hour haha.

Yogyakarta street parade
After my much needed power nap, Nigel and I went to the streets for the parade. People on the streets were celebrating the anniversary of the forming of Yogyakarta. Fascinating traditional costumes and dances were shown in a long parade.

Dinner at Gadjah Wong Restaurant
Western dinner at restaurant Gadjah Wong to end our busy day.
