Mahjong Workshop Hong Kong style
Have you always wanted to play mahjong? – No, not those stacked tiles with two of the same from your desktop – Then this is your chance!
Mahjong is a Chinese heritage tile game. It’s about skills, strategy, and luck. Several countries have their own variation of the game. We’ll teach you Hong Kong-style mahjong, one of the most played variations in the Chinese community.
We will not just share the rules, but also history, traditions, family stories, and warnings for cheaters! Our goal is to introduce people to mahjong in a genuine, authentic, and respectful way.
To really master mahjong, it is a matter of playing many games after learning the basics. Organize your own mahjong evenings, build your own mahjong community, or come to the practice round.
We have two different types of tickets this time. Either way, it promises to be a fun afternoon together!
Triple C
Triple C is a creative café, coworking space and cultural hub in Amsterdam, located in the heart of NDSM.
More than a café or event space, Triple C is an ever-evolving place where culture, community and creativity come together. A space designed to spark ideas, encourage collaboration and create meaningful connections between people from different backgrounds.
This Mid-Autumn Festival, they have a program to celebrate Chinese culture. Making this a perfect collaboration. We will provide the mahjong event, but you can also book a dumpling workshop on their website.
Triple C will provide the drinks, various matcha and coffees, at the workshop. And if you feel like more, you can also order some delicious (Filipino) food!
1. BEGINNERS CLASS (Dutch)
What: Mahjong Hong Kong Style for beginners. You will be given homework to recognize the Chinese tiles 1-9. The workshop starts with the whole group where the basics will be explained. In the second half of the workshop, you play in teams behind a table. In the break we will enjoy an (iced) matcha or coffee from Tripple C together.
For this one time, we will do the workshop in Dutch because of the requests. No worries, the next one in a few weeks will be back in English.

2. PRACTICE ROUND
Everyone who knows the mahjong basics, know you need to keep playing to get into the flow and develop your own style. We got you!
What: Come enjoy a drink of your choice from Triple C while having fun playing Hong Kong-style mahjong for about two hours practising your game.
This ticket is designed for beginners who want to practise building the walls, get familiar with the flow of the game, and master “sheung” and “pong” as you work towards creating a mahjong.
Don’t worry about scoring just yet! You can always ask our sifus for tips and guidance to help you improve your skills.
We keep it dynamic to switch tables after every game, only the winner stays. This way you play with different players and learning by observing others.

During the workshop, there are some little snacks on the table, which is included in your ticket.
Next to this, there is (Filipino) food available to order at Tripple C (not included in your ticket).
1 drink is included in your ticket. Your can order more after.
You can park on the streets. It’s paid parking, €1,72 per hour.

2. Cancellations & Refunds
•Cancellations by Participants:
•Cancellations up to 7 days before the event will receive a full refund.
•Cancellations made within 7 days of the event are non-refundable.
•Cancellations by Organizer:
If we must cancel the Workshop due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., illness, low attendance, force majeure), participants will receive a full refund or be offered an alternative date.
